Die Idee: Ich wollte mal wieder eine Art Konzeptalbum hören. Leicht, fast schon Lounge, miteinander verbunden. Wie eine Reise zu den Stränden der Welt. Und Spaß sollte es machen.
The idea: I wanted to hear a proper concept album again. Light, almost lounge, all of a piece. Like a journey to the beaches of the world. And it should be fun.
Warum also nicht selbst kreieren?
So why not make it myself?
Nach gut sieben Monaten ist Free Alive fertig. Eigene Texte, einfache Geschichten, übers Freisein, Leben, Lieben, Sonne, Strand und Meer. Musikalisch reist die Platte zwischen entspannten Beach-Grooves, Organic House, Nu-Disco und Funk, mit Abstechern nach Latin, Afro und Jazz. Dazu akustischer Beach-Pop und cineastisch-atmosphärische Instrumentals.
After a good seven months, Free Alive is finished. My own lyrics, simple stories, about being free, about living, loving, sun, beach and sea. Musically the record travels between easy beach grooves, organic house, nu-disco and funk, with detours into Latin, Afro and jazz. Plus acoustic beach pop and cinematic, atmospheric instrumentals.

Das genaue Gegenteil von Lounge: Dub-Versionen zum Tanzen, Disco-Stampf, teils mit Gesang, aber im Grunde von vorn bis hinten Dancefloor.
The exact opposite of lounge: dub versions built to dance to, disco stomp, some vocals, but front to back a dancefloor record.
Rein instrumental. Stile von verschiedenen Kontinenten, teils rockig, teils minimalistisch, teils einfach sphärisch. Eine musikalische Reise im Wortsinn.
Purely instrumental. Styles from different continents, part rock, part minimal, part simply spacious. A musical journey in the literal sense.
Eigentlich ein „Abfallprodukt“ der Versuche, das sich dann verselbständigt hat: Kaffeehausmusik, Lounge House, Bossa Nova. Fast wurde daraus ein eigenes Projekt.
Started as a “by-product” of the experiments and then took on a life of its own: coffee house music, lounge house, bossa nova. It almost became a project in itself.
Insgesamt also vier Alben mit Songs, Instrumentals, kleinen Übergängen, Brüchen, Tempowechseln, Ohrwürmern und Experimenten, die wahrscheinlich nur wenige mögen werden.
Four albums in total, with songs, instrumentals, small transitions, breaks, tempo changes, earworms and experiments that probably only a few people will like.
Das Ganze soll aber vor allem eines: Spaß machen. Spaß beim Hören!
But above all it should do one thing: be fun. Fun to listen to!
Ja, vieles klingt alt. Absichtlich.
Yes, a lot of it sounds old. On purpose.
Ich mag Musik, die nach Musik klingt. Musik, die ich irgendwann einmal rauf und runter gehört habe. Oder es immer noch tue. Vertrautes, nur mit anderen Mitteln gebaut.
I like music that sounds like music. Music I once played over and over. Or still do. The familiar, only built with different tools.
Und genau da wird es interessant.
And that is exactly where it gets interesting.
Denn ein großer Teil dieser Musik ist mit KI entstanden.
Because a large part of this music was made with AI.
Ich habe dabei etwas gelernt, womit ich vorher nicht gerechnet hatte:

Die Arbeit verschwindet nicht. Sie wandert.
The work doesn’t disappear. It moves.
Ich spiele nicht jedes Instrument. Ich singe nicht jede Stimme. Ich sitze nicht mit fünf Musikern im Studio.
I don’t play every instrument. I don’t sing every voice. I’m not sitting in a studio with five musicians.
Was dabei weniger wird, ist die handwerkliche Ausführung.
Was permanent gefordert wird, ist das Urteil.
What becomes less is the craft of execution.
What is demanded constantly is judgement.
Aber macht genau dieses Urteil mich schon zum Künstler?
But does that judgement alone make me an artist?
Denn es gibt einen Punkt, den man bei aller Begeisterung für die neuen Möglichkeiten nicht einfach wegdiskutieren kann.
Because there is one point you can’t simply argue away, however excited you are about the new possibilities.
Aber bei KI gibt es einen entscheidenden Unterschied:

Sie hat aus uns gelernt.
It learned from us.
Aus menschlichen Stimmen. Aus Kompositionen. Aus Aufnahmen. Aus Stilen. Aus Kunst, deren Schöpfer häufig nie gefragt wurden.

An dieser Stelle bricht für mich jeder einfache Vergleich mit früheren technischen Revolutionen.

Deshalb nimmt Groove Juice Cocktail keine Seite ein. Das Projekt probiert aus.

Wie weit kann man mit diesen Werkzeugen gehen?
Wie viel Mensch muss in einem Werk stecken, damit wir es als menschliche Kunst empfinden?
Und vielleicht die unangenehmste Frage: Wenn mich ein Stück Musik berührt, verändert sich dieses Gefühl, sobald ich weiß, dass es mit KI entstanden ist?
How far can you go with these tools?
How much human has to be in a work for us to feel it as human art?
And maybe the most uncomfortable question: when a piece of music moves me, does that feeling change the moment I know it was made with AI?
Ein Album fertig, drei in Produktion, und ich weiß es weniger als vorher.
One album finished, three in production, and I know less than I did before.
Vielleicht ist genau das das interessanteste Ergebnis dieses Experiments.
Maybe that is the most interesting result of this experiment.
